And she’s back…

My last blog post (aside from the draft that’s been collecting dust in here since early 2024), was in October 2023. A lot has changed since then for designers, and a lot has changed for me.

My husband and I bought a house (right around October ‘23 actually). I got promoted at work and transitioned into an entirely new domain. I have a new little nephew. My hair isn’t purple anymore. I run two secret Instagram accounts :). The aerial program I manage has been incredibly successful and we’ve set up a foundation for an awesome aerial community. I learned how to cross-country ski. I am still as hungry as ever.

Yes, that’s me being very good at cross-country skiing. In the words of that person who was turned into a newt in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I got better!

As I’m taking in the current tech/design landscape and trying to figure out where I fit in it, I think it’s high time I get back into the habit of writing. It’s a good muscle to keep strong. I do a lot of writing in my current day job, but it’s not, like, fun writing. So I’m using this as my little accountability tracker to start writing for fun again.

A brief retro

Since I’ve last written, so much has happened in my career. So much has happened in my life. And I have a lot of thoughts that I’ll be digging into as I wake up these writing muscles.

Some ideas I’m writing down here to cover, just so I don’t forget:

  • designing a kitchen and cross-over design skills (and all the things that went wrong)

  • baby’s first keynote

  • designing for AI builders is not the same as designing ways to integrate AI into an experience

  • why I’m mad at the big players in AI for changing our vocabulary without rhyme or reason

  • on letting go (and letting leadership make decisions)

I’ll be back soon

And if I’m not, please remind me.
